For the past century, medical research has made significant advances to human health. Most people are believed to be living longer compared to the people in the nineteenth century. A great deal of credit goes to the discoveries of medicines. These include the discovery of insulin, a treatment for diabetes; antibiotics, which is now the most commonly prescribed medication; blood pressure medications, et cetera. It also made an impact to advanced surgery, which has become safer for most patients. Humans are able now to live a healthier life.

At present, understanding human genetic code is being worked on as most diseases are from genetic causes. If we succeed, patterns of diseases inherited from our parents can be easily treated. Among other things, it is a passion for most researchers to unveil another discovery. This requires not just money but extensive knowledge of the field. There are a lot of researchers devoted to fighting diseases. Investigating this is done thru microscopy.

The age of microscopy has been centuries old. It helped with major breakthroughs in the field of medical research. Treatments were possible and countless lives were saved and those who suffered were relieved.

Medical research microscopy blossomed during the period when researchers have determined the significance of cells in the human body. This study was further carried out to come up positive result to human health and development. With the help of advanced microscopes, they discovered mainly the fundamental building blocks of human life and made it the basis for all medical research conducted through the years.

Germ theory was another “leap forward.” It was believed before that germs caused diseases. Using microscopy, we were made aware of their existence and this made us vigilant enough to maintain good hygiene not just for ourselves but in hospital care too. Caution is now being practiced at all times and antiseptic solutions are being used to protect human health.

Another important thing invented were vaccines. These vaccines are used for deadly bacteria which also causes diseases. Blood types were discovered as well as techniques in blood transfusion.

Some other contributions of medical research microscopy include the Developing Cell Theory wherein microscopes became much important in research about cells. Another is the Pasteur and Germ Theory. This paved way to the treatment of infections in surgeries. Neutralizing germs was also one. Pasteur experimented on infected alcohol and concluded that it can also infect humans even if it is considered to be an antiseptic. Viruses were suspected as well. Microscopy enabled the doctor to see these small agents of infection. Rabies’ discovery was a major breakthrough also. From then on, methods were utilized to create appropriate vaccines. Isolating tuberculosis bacteria was hailed as it the disease brought by this type of bacteria is referred to as the most devastating of all respiratory infections.

When the electron microscope was made, more great works took place. It suddenly had a huge impact on the field of medical research because of its better magnitude of magnification. The field of virology was opened up and improved studies on viruses were done. More effective vaccines were made to prevent some diseases that have proven to be deadly to mankind. One discovery is for poliomyelitis. It is a highly infectious viral infection. Polio hardly ever kills, but it definitely causes relentless muscle paralysis. Also, microscopy help in discovering what makes up our DNA.

Genetic Engineering has been extensively related to DNA research, which also controlled and eliminated a lot of diseases. We must not forget also microsurgery. Dramatically, it is one of the most important ways that altered medicine. It is done by repairing those extremely tiny sections of our body such as nerves and blood vessels. It is considered as a hands-on application of microscopy as it provides both medical practitioner and the patient fast, concrete results. At that instant, they can both see the product of their effort, which is very helpful to the patient’s well being.

Some procedures which are done microsurgically are simple like vasectomies. However, in the past, this operation seemed impossible to perform. Amazingly, medical practitioners can now reattach the patient’s hands and fingers even if damaged severely. Perhaps a few of the most significant breakthroughs in the field of microsurgery revolves in techniques for doing operations on the brain. To mention a few more, there is also the operation of reattaching the fingers, finding ways to adjoin plenty of interior tubes, giving the patient a hand, minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, etc.

Medical research microscopy has undergone vast changes in its advancement and numerous contributions to humanity. Without this field, medical research, discoveries, and practices would be impossible. In the meantime, there are new structures of microscopy which gives a promise of added advances to be developed. The chances of having more techniques too are expected. This will all mean a better health system and a more improved ways of living.
